I would like to comment on the Tuscany Tour 2014,
I decided to go on this tour as I wanted to improve my photography and travel, so this felt ideal. I had previously done a short Landscape workshop with Garreth so I was fairly confident. What I didnt expect was the planning and organisation to the finest detail, that Garreth did for us, to enable us to get the most out of our time. He meticulously planned each day, gave us instruction if we needed it, advice after we had taken our photographs or just general encouragement. The locations were perfect and well suited for our needs. There was also time to take in the wonderful ambiance of Tuscany itself and we had many a pleasant evening sampling the local cheese and wine. We photographed town and country sunrise , sunset and everything between and I learnt such a lot. The group ranged in experience and i felt we supported each other. This was my first experience as a sole, older, female traveller and I was quite nervous, but it was a genuinely wonderful experience and I cant recommend it highly enough. I have already booked on the tour planned for 2015.
What to expect
Each day over breakfast there will be a short information presentation of what and where we will be visiting that day. We will then meet at approx. 8.30am and travel as a small group to specially selected locations. This will include a variety from landscapes to city scenes or small hill top towns and villages. Depending on the light and weather we will hope to Finnish off the day with a sunset. At each stop there will be a short talk on what and how to best photograph your location. plus time to split up and explore.
Lunch and evening meals, each and everyday we will find ourselves where there will be a variety of places for you to get some something to eat. (not included) You will have the option to eat as a group or head off to find a quite place to yourself. For those of you who already know me, food plays a big part of my tours and workshops, and is an important part of experiencing another culture. So rest assured there will always be somewhere to get good food.
Optional Sunrise. Sunrise is approx. 6am. So for those who want to make the most of their photographic opportunities you can meet me at 5.30am each mooring where we will travel approx. 15 mins to a location to capture the sun rising over the Tuscan landscape, we will then return to our accommodation approx. 1hr later for breakfast. If you don't fancy getting up quite so early. you can have a bit more time in bed and meet up with everyone at breakfast.
Group dynamics Travelling as group can be great fun, and its a brilliant way to make new friends. But its also good to get time to yourself. So each day there will be the opportunity to split up into smaller groups or spend a few hours walking and exploring by yourself. If you are a lone traveller, don’t worry you wont be left on your own either. I have a fine collection of old jokes that will keep you laughing for days??????
One 2 one tuition. throughout the tour you will get the chance to reserve some private tuition. This could be to help with techniques or composition, or to work on your Street photography and Landscapes. However even if you don't need any dedicated photography tuition time. feel free to shout out questions during the day.
Where will we be going and what will we see, The whole tour is planned and researched to make it an unforgettable and pleasurable experience. locations are selected from previous trips to make sure we photograph each and every location at the best time of day and in the best light available. This means that there may be a need to change the itinerary to suit the weather and light conditions during the tour.
Some of the places we will visit are Siena, Florence, Castiglione D’orcia, Castiglione del Lago, San Gimignano, Montepulciano, San Quirico D’orcia, plus many individual locations for capturing the landscape at its very best. Travel will be by private car and possibly by train into florence.
Our location, our accommodation is just 10mins from the fabulous hill top town of San Gimignano, and will be the same accommodation for the whole tour. San Gimignano is a joy to walk around and has plenty of cafes and restaurants for you to enjoy and discover. All rooms will have private bathrooms and will be single occupancy unless otherwise selected. The distance from Pisa airport is approx. 1.5 hours. Every effort has been made to select accommodation that is of good quality and has a pool and private areas. it will also be located as close as possible to all the places we will be visiting. Journey times during the week will vary from a 10 min drive to a couple of hours. But don’t worry you wont be spending most of your holiday stuck in a vehicle. there will be plenty of stops on the way for great photo opportunities.
